When yes means no
Where else but in BC politics can the word yes mean no?The government,a Liberal government that has changed it’s leader but none of it’s major brain trust, has lied to the people of the Province often and without conscience. They now expect that we will believe that a tax we were promised was;”not even on this governments radar”will be reduced over a three year period”.They know that the only chance they have, even after spending an unknown amount of tax dollars to convince us this tax is good for us.Is to blindside the no HST crowd with a question that will confuse a % of voters. While the recall has been a cry of NO HST,the answer to the question,if you want NO HST is YES.The NDP braintrust approved the question, which is another problem for another day.Hopefully, the recent appointment of a LEADER to the party may stop some of the endless faux pas that plagued the party under it’s last leader. It is doubtless that there will be some of the 18% of undecided voters that will just grab the letter when it comes, check off no and send it off thinking that is a vote against the hated HST.It is NOT.To rid us of this unnecessary burden on our already overtaxed populace, you must vote YES to GETTING RID OF THE HST.Don’t let this cynical bunch of political hacks who have made it a habit to promise the moon and deliver mouldy cheese have their little deceptions pay dividends. It is only 50/50 that we will have a legitimate election here with no fake ballots and no short counts. This is the government that sold out the rights to our rivers FOR ALL TIME to their big business buddies. That passed a carbon tax and came up with the gateway project to destroy any possible gains. That screwed up the school system(yes Chrissy Clarke, you did that yourself)so that there is a total adversary relationship with the school boards and the teachers union. That turned hospital workers into indentured servants, illegally as it turns out.Anyone that thinks this government can be trusted on anything is in denial. Please, when you get your forms in the mail, take the TIME to READ them.Vote “YES” to RID us of the hated and terrible HST.The government is good at one thing and that is using deception to have their way.Don’t let them fool you this time.
Harper shows us what’s important to him
The CTV network managed to lose the oppositions tape but somehow managed to find not only a tape but time to play it for Mr.Harper.Harper spent his time doing what he does best.Being divisive and trying to widen already existing splits in the country. He seized on the separatist issue almost exclusively which was no surprise because he already showed his total lack of any stimulus plan or any ability to work with the opposition parties. He,in fact, tried to remove their funding and destroy their ability to perform.By harping on the separatist issue Harper once again showed a total lack of any understanding of how to get people to work together. He completely misses the fact that he represents 38% of 52% of the population. He tried to use that tiny minority as if he had a full mandate and the power to run roughshod over parliament. The fact is the opposition coallition represents almost double the population that Harper managed to fool at the polls.I,for one,am anxious to see if the opposition/government coallition can last and put the country back on a path of humane and people driven policy.Perhaps we can actually become a leader in environmental policy and get back to a science based approach to government policy.Maybe there can be a re enstatement of the Kelowna accord and begin treating our native peoples with some dignity.Harper has been a disaster for all but the very top rung of our society. He places his own moralistic view ahead of reason and research and in fact has muzzled government scientists on everything from the climate to Insite. Now with the economy in need of some real stimulus he wants to porogue parliament and delay further any action on that very critical front. This proves that when it comes to all this concern for the country,Harper is just blowing smoke in an attempt to hold onto what really matters to him.Beating the other guy.Harper has bullied his way out of office by doing the impossible.Harper has united the progressive elements of government by being the stubborn bully he just can’t help being.Goodbye Mr.Harper.It’s been a nightmare watching you destroy our country.Get together with your friend Brian Mulroney. He’ll show you how to con the country out of millions. He has the experience.
It’s supposed to be that way
People claim to be shocked at the recent death of a disabled and homeless native man in the emergency room of a Winnipeg hospital after sitting unattended for 34 hours. The current government not only fails to see the homeless, they actively do everything they can to disenfranchise and kill them off. They can always find billions to send to disaster areas anywhere in the world but refuse to do anything for the thousands here in Canada. The scrapping of the Kelowna accord was one of the first things this government did once in office.Harper’s disdain for first nations people is no secret. How often has he had to muzzle or apologize for one of his back benchers rants putting down our first nations people. It’s no secret that a large number of our countries homeless are from first nations .This government has cut social housing or at the very least done nothing about it.Their attitude towards anyone with social problems has been to ask for stiffer laws and more prison time for anything to do with the poor and homeless. That this bunch would allow circumstances to exist in which such a needless death could occur is no surprise.Their opposition to Insite is just one example of how their policies lean towards extinction rather than treatment, which is a word they love to pay lip service to and nothing else.Canada is becoming a country in which you have to be upper class or better to live a decent lifestyle. For the majority,it’s a matter of hanging on by their finger nails and taking their own fear out on those with less than themselves.Americans are learning what the true costs of living beyond your means are.Harper is telling Canadians that we have nothing to fear. That may be true for Mr.Harper and his friends but for the disadvantaged what we have is a cold floor and a lonely death on an emergency room floor with no one to talk to but the janitor. We already have been betrayed and have seen our health system sluffed off onto the provinces, most of which have had to turn to a two tiered system with the private sector having the best care and the rest of us are stuck with long waiting lists and often death as the result. The conservatives don’t have to wait for their health care and they don’t care about those of us that do.They feel that if you want health care that’s fast and of good quality, you should be able to pay for it.They pay for it with our money.Next time you pass a homeless man in a wheel chair, take a second to think about his life.We are all no better than the way we treat the least of our citisens. If this is what you feel is fair and equal health care, then vote for Mr.Harper.I can guarantee that as long as he is in charge in Ottawa, this is the best we’ll get.
How stupid are we?
The spring session is over and although the Campbell government have shown themselves to be secretive, corrupt, arrogant and rife with patronage the B.C. voter still seems to be standing firm with their heads planted firmly in the sand.Likely, this is due to the uninspiring and often misguided NDP leader,Carole James. Her policy screw ups and her demand for lock step obedience are as undemocratic as the Liberals Back room dealings and secret policy signings.I have no idea what James stands for at this point other than that she wants more women to hang with.Decreeing that a party must give preferential treatment to any one segment of society is so transverse to everything this country is supposed to stand for that I can’t imagine that she’ll make friends of many voters with this policy. Her waffling on the back room pay hike only to pull off the same thing later on was another chance to separate the NDP from the Liberals that she let fly right on by.Greed and self interest seems to be a trait shared by all politicians. They wax eloquent on how important it is for everyone else to tighten their belts but are always the first to grab the money and run.Not only did they raise their pay by an unconscionable margin but they passed a gold plated pension as well.Small wonder that politicians rank at the bottom of the public approval ratings. The Liberals rammed through without any real debate their unpopular carbon tax,the gag law and a number of other legislation that should have been set aside and properly debated in the fall. How the people of this province can even consider electing this bunch of arrogant and self serving oligarchs for another term eludes me.They have broken every major promise they made to get elected.Their philosophy of selling off the province to private business concerns will come back to haunt future generations.Of course the government and their families will be so well off from the back room dealings that they have been doing that they won’t care about the hardships the rest of us and our prodigy are forced to endure. The Liberals always blame the NDP of the 90’s for everything that is wrong with this province. It’s about time people began looking at things like the Olympic give aways that this government has made behind closed doors. The sale of our power grid and the ferries will cost our children for years to come.If this government is allowed to have another four years to plunder this province the damage may be beyond repair.Take a look at the legislation that was rammed through in the last day of the sitting and you will agree that what was done is tantamount to dictatorship.Government by decree. How is this government leading in the polls? They must find B.C. politics like herding sheep.Just remember that sheep eventually are led to the slaughter.

It’s my understanding that Barack Obama won 13 candidates and Hilary Clinton 12.The wire services are claiming hilary Clinton was the big winner?I failed math in high school,to my great shame, but that doesn’t add up to me.Can any one enlighten me as to how the math on this is done?
Hello world!
Welcome to WordPress.comThe Province of British Columbia thinks it can privatise the whole public sector and they’ve made a good start. Now they’re selling our childrens legacy in the form of “run of the river”power projects. There is currently an application open to alter the boundries of a provincial park to run power lines through one of the parks most sensitive areas.I’m asking any one with a conscience to send e-mail to:…….PineconeBurke@gov.bc.ca or Comments@northwestcascadepower.com……………………………..if you prefer snail mail:B.C. parks,PO box9389STN PROV GOVT,VICTORIAB.C.,V8W9M9 or by fax:250387-5757 Attention Pinecone Burke Park…..I have my doubts they’ll listen but the more people complain, the more votes they see going south.
