The spring session is over and although the Campbell government have shown themselves to be secretive, corrupt, arrogant and rife with patronage the B.C. voter still seems to be standing firm with their heads planted firmly in the sand.Likely, this is due to the uninspiring and often misguided NDP leader,Carole James. Her policy screw ups and her demand for lock step obedience are as undemocratic as the Liberals Back room dealings and secret policy signings.I have no idea what James stands for at this point other than that she wants more women to hang with.Decreeing that a party must give preferential treatment to any one segment of society is so transverse to everything this country is supposed to stand for that I can’t imagine that she’ll make friends of many voters with this policy. Her waffling on the back room pay hike only to pull off the same thing later on was another chance to separate the NDP from the Liberals that she let fly right on by.Greed and self interest seems to be a trait shared by all politicians. They wax eloquent on how important it is for everyone else to tighten their belts but are always the first to grab the money and run.Not only did they raise their pay by an unconscionable margin but they passed a gold plated pension as well.Small wonder that politicians rank at the bottom of the public approval ratings. The Liberals rammed through without any real debate their unpopular carbon tax,the gag law and a number of other legislation that should have been set aside and properly debated in the fall. How the people of this province can even consider electing this bunch of arrogant and self serving oligarchs for another term eludes me.They have broken every major promise they made to get elected.Their philosophy of selling off the province to private business concerns will come back to haunt future generations.Of course the government and their families will be so well off from the back room dealings that they have been doing that they won’t care about the hardships the rest of us and our prodigy are forced to endure. The Liberals always blame the NDP of the 90’s for everything that is wrong with this province. It’s about time people began looking at things like the Olympic give aways that this government has made behind closed doors. The sale of our power grid and the ferries will cost our children for years to come.If this government is allowed to have another four years to plunder this province the damage may be beyond repair.Take a look at the legislation that was rammed through in the last day of the sitting and you will agree that what was done is tantamount to dictatorship.Government by decree. How is this government leading in the polls? They must find B.C. politics like herding sheep.Just remember that sheep eventually are led to the slaughter.

When 53% is a minority
It’s not the same story, but it is.
I was reading my newspaper today and in the back pages was a story about the police finding 5500 marijuana plants.I was pretty annoyed as the same story had appeared so many times and then I read the details.I can only assume the number is just one that seems familiar but that the story is totally different on each occasion. So,what we have is a whole lot of stories about a whole lot of people growing marijuana in large quantities.I can only guess that these people are not growing a life time supply for themselves. That means there is a huge industry out there of people growing marijuana.I must therefore also assume that someone is purchasing this pot and that they are,in turn, finding a market for their product that provides them with enough of a profit to make it worth their while. We’ve been told for years that it’s a small group of criminals that defy the law and cause us all this annoying drug problem that is costing us billions every year to keep to the level that it sits at.I have to think we’ve been deceived. For all these arrests to be taking place there has to be a whole lot more of this going on than we’re being told. This is more than a few bad apples spoiling the barrel. It’s time we admitted that the majority of people in current society like to smoke pot. It’s just a fact.Time to move on and let the police move on to solving crimes that are actual crimes, with victims and bad people doing bad things. The days when it seemed to make sense to try to stop the use of drugs are long in the past.If this is a true democracy.the majority should have their way. There seems to be absolutely no evidence that marijuana does any harm or that there is any reason to prosecute people for it’s use.
The Brenda Martin dichotomy
There is little doubt that the Harper conservative government has just spent an inordinate amount of tax money achieving the release of this self loathing drunk from a Mexican prison. What I would like to ask them is why? While Marc Emery,a man that always paid his taxes and declared his income and job description, awaits extradition to the United States,a country whose prisons are probably as bad as Mexico’s.Our government intercedes in a case of a woman who was probably far more culpable than Emery ever was.Martin is an admitted drunk with what she claims are zero memories of her crimes. That her co-accused interjected his testimony into her proceedings is probably proof that she was involved in some way or he would have said nothing. This government has abandoned long standing tradition and ignored it’s responsibility to intercede in capital cases.Yet it involves itself,to the financial detriment of all Canadian taxpayers,in the case of a drama queen with friends with enough media savvy to make it appear that she has some support.I find it inconceivable that Canadians would consistently ignore the plight of non-violent drug offenders.Yet would spend money and influence in the case of an over dramatic, self involved drunk that lived like a queen off of the criminal proceeds of internet crime. All you out in the world’s prisons doing time for possession of drugs for personal use, threaten to kill yourself and whine to the Canadian consul at every opportunity.Find a friend with a computer and the knowledge of how to send multiple e-mails under different names and have at it.And to the Canadian news services, please,no more of this woman’s face crying tearlessley into your lens.A person can only take so much really bad acting.Mr. Harper. If Brenda Martin,a drunk that’s done nothing for her country but give the impression that we’re whining sniveling wretches, deserves your intercession,we expect you to send the DEA packing without Marc Emery. It would be nice if you told them to leave their guns at the border. We would like our sovereignty back.
Even Dickens knew the root cause of crime.
Charles Dickens wrote some very compelling literature in the 19th century that the Victorian society of the day found quaint.Although his work led to the first steps toward at least trying to solve some of the problems of the machine age, real progress had to wait till the next century to really take hold.We no longer have debtors prisons. Now we just let people with lower incomes live in the streets and under bridges. We pay “ambassadors” to move them along and direct them to services.Preferably in the DTES,our own version of the American ghetto with all the attendant pitfalls.Up until the end of the twentieth century, things were actually getting better for the poor. With the arrival of the conservative revolution in the new century.Things have gotten worse and worse. The gap between rich and poor has opened to be a chasm and those that have are less and less willing to lend a hand to those with problems that many see as self inflicted. On the one hand we have the children of privilege.Often the first to throw stones these children of wealth want for nothing and seem happy with none of it.The children of the poor are just passengers on a ride which they have no say in and often are over whelmed by.That the current government is responsible for much of the misery in this, the so called best place on earth,is undeniable. This is the most corrupt and secretive pack of dogs we’ve been subjected to in my memory.I can remember my mother telling me that the Liberals would never be a political force in this province again because of the way they had destroyed the province in her day.Resurrected by Gordon Campbell, they’ve risen, not like a phoenix but more like a plague from hell. They took aim at the lowest level of society and slashed and burned the social safety net to where people weren’t falling through cracks but plummeting straight down unabated. Now we have working people living in tents if they’re lucky enough to own one and find a place to set it up where Sam’s citizens patrols(remember, all city employees are empowered and advised to act as deputy’s)can’t find and destroy them.People respond whenever someone in the media points to some person or family that has been hit hard by Sam or crime but it’s the job of the government to see that people get at least the minimum required to sustain life.Food banks, like income tax, were brought in to fill the gap that the social safety net failed to cover when hard times hit in the eighties. Now they’re indispensable, many would be lost without them. The elderly, the disabled and those with drug or mental problems live a sad existence completely bereft of the amenities that make life bearable. Both levels of government have totally abandoned their duty to the lesser in our society. At a time when we should be changing the system to eliminate handouts to the very wealthy, the opposite is happening. In a province next to the worst pollution known to man,we introduce a carbon tax.Not an increase in the cost of fossil fuels but an all round tax grab that’s revenue neutral but requires a payout to ease the pain. What pain if it’s truly revenue neutral? The media is filled with articles full of vitriol and hatred aimed at,why the poor of course. It’s those criminals and shiftless young people that laugh at the courts and have us all befuddled. If Mr. Dickens picked up a newspaper today he’d think he’d died and gone nowhere.People that see no hope and have no dreams will do what they have to to survive.Ghettos have been the cauldrons of despair from which come the tragedies that are the broken lives everyone wants to put behind bars.It does nothing to solve the problem or to decrease the liklihood of the problems diminishing. It does give jobs to those with few skills that can be gate keepers in our prisons. There are two approaches to reducing criminal behaviour. The way our governments have chosen is the most expensive and destructive to humanity but then you don’t see much of that any more.Easier to just wait for them to break something and throw them somewhere we don’t have to look at them anymore.
B.C. Government uses the homeless to hide favors to their friends
In a move that can only be described as brilliant as it is evil. The Liberals have once again announced they’ve bought hotels in the DTES in order to “preserve” SRO’s in the area. This time they did it through a single developer that managed to acquire all six buildings for very low prices and then sell them to our government for in one case, three times it’s estimated value. All of the hotels that the government has purchased have been bought with tax dollars for well above their evaluation of worth. Most are in disrepair and the money to fix them up would have been covered if there hadn’t been these speculation buying sprees just before their purchase.Even if a reasonable profit had been asked the costs
would have been covered.Paying value x3 makes one wonder just who thought this was a good deal for the taxpayers?Hiding this kind of boiler room deal behind the homeless issue is disgusting.Rewarding the “friends of Gordon” is SOP for this government and has been from day 1.

It’s my understanding that Barack Obama won 13 candidates and Hilary Clinton 12.The wire services are claiming hilary Clinton was the big winner?I failed math in high school,to my great shame, but that doesn’t add up to me.Can any one enlighten me as to how the math on this is done?
